KASHIMA SHRINE

Kashima-shrine is known for "Ichigan-Joju" which means "only one wish is fulfilled". A large number of people visit the shrine, especially during the New Year holidays and the period of entrance examinations. On the way to this shrine, there are many souvenir shop that sell Daruma and Kashiwamochi.
The shrine is located in Kashima Ohgidaira Natural Park where more than 2000 cherry trees were planted within the 54 hectare yard, and when in full bloom in spring these afford a marvelous sight.
There is a giant rock halfway up the north side of the park, which is called "Taka-no-su" or "A Nest of Hawks". It is said that hawks built their nest in a hollow of this rock long ago. Its size is 23m in height and 37m in width.
You can enjoy a fine panorama of Awaji Island and Shodo Island in the distance, and Harima Island Sea nearby, from the forest called "Uma-no-se" or "The back of a horse", in the natural park..
