The stone found in Tatsuyama is of relativery soft tuff and is widely used for buildings and gardens because of the ease in cutting it. The shades of light on the rough-hewn stone at the Tatsuyama quarry produce an eye-catching landscape, compared with ordinary vertically cut stone.
